Dr. Martin Guevara Urbina, Professor of Criminal Justice at Sul Ross-Rio Grande College, has been named the Graduate Coordinator for the Criminal Justice Department at the university.
He will oversee all aspects of the program including admissions, enrollment, teaching schedules, and mentoring. Because all coursework for the Master of Science in Criminal Justice is completed online, it offers the flexibility working adults need to finish a graduate degree. He said, “I look forward to the opportunity to work with our Rio Grande College faculty as well as with faculty and administration in Alpine. I plan to expand the program by promoting it with a positive image to law enforcement officials and others interested in taking on an educational challenge.”
Urbina earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Sul Ross State University, a master’s in criminal justice from New Mexico State University, and his doctorate in sociology from Western Michigan University. He has taught in higher education since 1996 and the prolific writer has authored more than 40 scholarly publications, including several books.
