Diamond Y Spring Preserve Pipeline Survey

ExcavationIn 1997, the CBBS completed an archeological survey along a proposed gas pipeline at the Diamond Y Spring Preserve in Pecos County, Texas for the Nature Conservancy of Texas.

This project resulted in the recording of two sites, one exposed on limestone shelves overlooking Diamond Y Draw and the other found buried beneath over a meter of deposit in the floodplain of that drainage.

ExcavationWhile the lack of funding precluded extensive work on the buried site, sufficient data was recovered to suggest the presence of an Early Archaic (ca. 8500-4500 years before present) component.

Plans are being made to investigate this site during the 2002 Sul Ross State University Archeological Field School.
