DR. CHET SAMPLE
Is a Professor of Physical Education who teaches three undergraduate classes in Physical Education and also teaches two graduate courses in the Education Department as well as in Physical Education. Sample has held a variety of positions at Sul Ross including: Director of Athletics and Chair of the Physical Education Department for twenty years (1977 – 1997), Dean of the School of Professional Studies for eleven years (1997-2008), Men’s Basketball coach for five years, Women’s Basketball Coach for fifteen years. During those years Sample taught as a professor in both Physical Education and Education and he returned to teaching on a full-time basis in 2008. Originally from Seminole, Texas, Sample graduated from Seminole High School and attended Wayland Baptist University in Plainview, Texas where he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Health and Physical Education with a minor in English. The Master of Arts Degree was received from Sul Ross State University and the Doctor of Education Degree was earned at East Texas State University in Commerce, Texas. Sample was an All-State basketball player in high school and an NAIA All-American basketball player at Wayland University where he was a teammate of Dr. Roger Grant, Chair of Physical Education at Sul Ross. Sample has been inducted into the American Southwest Conference Hall of Honor, the Wayland Baptist University Athletic Hall of Honor and the Sul Ross State University Athletic Hall of Honor. Dr. Sample and wife, Belinda, have two grown children who are Sul Ross graduates and two grandchildren who are future Lobos.
