Information literate individuals are knowledgeable participants who understand information retrieval so well that they are able to apply the concepts regardless of the tools used, whether to satisfy their immediate information need or in the future. They are able to identify and formulate their information need, access needed information, evaluate and effectively utilize the information - all competencies that will contribute to their future citizenship, worklife, and lifelong learning.
- Developed from the Association of College and Research Libraries "Information Literacy Competency Standards for Higher Education." January 18, 2000.
The mission of the Bryan Wildenthal Memorial Information Literacy Program is to produce information literate individuals at Sul Ross State University.
In order to promote information literacy among its students, faculty, and staff, the Sul Ross Library offers a systematic, integrated approach to information literacy based on standards outlined by the Association of College & Research Libraries (ACRL). We seek to work directly with individual instructors to design instruction tailored to the needs of each class, but also offer more general types of instruction that may be scheduled as needed.
Please contact Mary Schwartze (mschwartze@sulross.edu) at (432) 837-8124 or fill out the electronic reservation form to schedule a class. Scheduling must take place at least three days in advance of the requested date in order to ensure both availability and adequate preparation time.
