    The Sul Ross State University football coach search committee held its first meeting Wednesday (Dec. 4) to review applications.
    To date, 27 applications have been received, with more arriving daily, since the position was advertised in late November.
    Dr. Jimmy Case, interim Provost and Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs, serves as committee chair. Other members are: Ken Batchelor, San Antonio, Sul Ross alumnus and Executive Manager, Ken Batchelor Cadillac; David Rogers, President, West Texas National Bank, Alpine; Taylor Richey, Sul Ross graduate student; Dr. Larry Guerrero, Dean, College of Professional Studies; Cesar Valenzuela, Vice President for Finance and Operations; Antuan Washington, Director of Recreational Sports; and Dr. David Watson, Assistant Professor of Political Science and faculty representative to the Athletic Council
    Case praised the diversity of the search committee and their collective expertise in academics, athletics and business.
    “The one unifying thread among the members is that they want the right coach for Sul Ross football,” he said. “The committee members are committed to helping the President identify the applicants who have the most successful records in football, are committed to promoting academic excellence among the student athletes and provide the student athletes an example of positive ethical character.”
