US NEWS AND WORLD REPORT RANKS SUL ROSS IN TOP 10 MOST AFFORDABLE PUBLIC UNIVERSITIES
For affordability, Sul Ross State University is the best in Texas. According to a recent article in U.S. News and World Report “10 Low-Cost Public Colleges for In-State Students,” Sul Ross was listed as the fourth-lowest-priced higher education institution nationally for in-state tuition and fees during the 2013-2014 academic year. No other Texas university or college was ranked in the top 10 list.
Sul Ross’ resident tuition and fees of $4,754 ranked behind only the University of Wyoming ($4,404); Elizabeth City (N.C.) State University ($4,428); and Louisiana State University-Alexandria ($4,617). Resident tuition and required fees at public universities averaged $8,539 for 2013-2014, compared to $19,465 for non-residents, based on data reported by 403 ranked public colleges in an annual U.S. News survey.
“Sul Ross offers the best of several worlds,” said Dr. Quint Thurman, Provost. “Students receive the equivalent of a small, private school education for the cost of the most affordable public institution of higher education in Texas.”
“The only Texas university setting situated in mountains (the main campus is in Alpine, in the Davis Mountains), Sul Ross is the top destination university in the state,” said Thurman. “Located in the Big Bend region of the state, Sul Ross offers students an idyllic, college town experience that features small class sizes, excellent instruction, caring faculty and staff, and arguably the best weather year-round anywhere in the U.S.”
