SUMMER II CLASSES BEGIN JULY 10
    2014 Summer Session II will begin Thursday, July 10 at Sul Ross State University, with classes, late registration and schedule changes. The session will continue through Thursday, Aug. 14.    
    Residential hall check-in is Wednesday, July 9. July 9 is also the last day to register for Summer II classes without a late fee.
    Tuesday, July 15  is the last day for late registration and schedule changes and is also the fourth class day. Thursday, July 24 is mid-term.
    Tuesday, July 29 is the last day for instructor-initiated drops for excessive absences, which must reach the Provost’s office by that day. Monday, Aug. 4 is the last day to drop a course with a “W.” Drops must be processed and in the Center for Enrollment Services (Lawrence Hall, Room 213) by 4 p.m.
    Final examinations will be administered Thursday, Aug. 14.
    Deadline for checking out of residential halls is noon Friday, Aug. 15.

FULL FUNDING RESTORED FOR SUL ROSS TALENT SEARCH
    Funding for the Sul Ross State University’s Talent Search Program has been restored to the full amount of $230,000 for the 2014-15 year through the U.S. Department of Education.
    This marks the fourth year of the five-year funding cycle.
    Talent Search serves qualified (low-income or first generation) students in grades 6-12 in Alpine, Fort Davis, Marfa, Pecos and Presidio who have the potential to succeed in higher education. Goal of the program is to increase the number of youth from disadvantaged backgrounds who complete high school and enroll in and complete their post-secondary education.
    The program offers assistance in academic advisement, college awareness, career exploration and financial aid/literacy. Talent Search also provides scholarship information, college and career field trips and SAT and ACT preparation activities.
    “With this reinstatement of the full budget, Talent Search will be able to serve more of our area youth,” said Ida Hoelscher, director.

JULY 18 RECEPTION FOR CHILDREN’S ART, BERYL RICE EXHIBIT AT MUSEUM
    Selected works from the summer children’s art camp and the Beryl Rice collection will be featured at an opening reception Friday, July 18 at the Museum of the Big Bend on the Sul Ross State University campus.
    The reception will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m. There is no charge and the public is welcome.
    Through a generous donation to the Children’s Education Program at the Museum of the Big Bend, over 120 children are attending summer Art Camp. The theme of the art camp, “A Beautiful Mess,” was inspired by the current exhibition, BERYL.
    BERYL features works of native art, sculpture, ceramic tile, monotypes and stitchery from the Beryl Lowe Rice Collection and is on display through Aug. 31.
    The Museum of the Big Bend is open from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday and 1-5 p.m. Sundays. Admission is free and donations are welcome.
