How to Submit

Authors should submit their manuscripts (preferably) via email to newtexas@sulross.edu as attached documents in Word format.

On subject line, please write "Submission-genre name" -- e.g. poetry, fiction, nonfiction.

Manuscripts sent via US post must be accompanied by a SASE.

Double spaced manuscripts should be 16-25 pages long (all inclusive) and should conform to the most recent edition of the MLA handbook. Accompanying photographs and art work should be sent with proper written permission for their use.

Submissions

Editorial Process

Publication decisions will usually be made within 3 months of receiving a manuscript.

Payment

New Texas does not offer payment for published pieces. In lieu of offprints, you will be provided a copy of the issue of New Texas in which your work appears.

Genres

Fiction

New Texas is open to fiction either by Texans, focused on Texas, or featuring Texas as a backdrop. We allow creative latitude; the fictional pieces may focus on the spiritual landscape of Texas as its connection to place.

The pieces should not exceed 25 double spaced pages. Short shorts will be considered.

Poetry

New Texas seeks poetry either by Texans or that makes use of Texas as focus or backdrop. New Texas is open to free verse submissions as well as poems in traditional forms; we prefer poetry under fifty lines.

Single space poetry submissions. Use double spacing to signify stanza breaks. Please send no more than four poems per submission.

Non-fiction

New Texas represents innovative interdisciplinary scholarship or creative prose that engages key issues in relation to Texas culture (which may include but is not limited to the arts, history, literature, music, etc.).

That is, contributions on any aspect of Texas culture and life are invited.
