SRSU Faculty and Staff Workshops - Fall 2015
These workshops are absolutely FREE to SRSU faculty and staff! Each workshop is only 45 minutes to an hour (unless otherwise indicated)!
Please try to register as much in advance for a workshop if possible! Here's the info:
WHO SHOULD REGISTER? SRSU Faculty and staff interested in delivering courses using the latest platforms and technology.
WHEN? That's up to you. Choose a workshop and a time that suits your schedule, then register.
WHERE? These workshops will be held in the Wildenthal Library in the 2nd floor classroom. Signed up participants will be notified before hand of any changes in workshop location.
HOW DO I REGISTER?: To register for a workshop you can:

-We'll get back to you confirming your workshop registration status
If your schedule won't permit you to make a workshop you really want to take, don't fret, the workshops below are all available for one-on-one's. Simply let me know the workshop (or specific area) you're interested in and we'll schedule one-on-one time or a mini-workshop for you.

MS Office365 Online Apps - Sway_01
Learn how to store and share your personal files using your SRSU OneDrive, MS Office 365's cloud storage service. We'll show you how to access and use the service, uploading files, organizing, copying and deleting files; sharing files; and creating documents with Office Online.
The big brother of OneDrive is SRSU Sites, which use Microsoft's Sharepoint technology. Using SRSU Sites we can begin to create a university-wide Intranet where SRSU organizations, departments, or programs can have their own secure, internal, permission-only, cloud-based document collection areas. We'll show you how to setup and organize a basic SRSU Intranet Site.

One of the more impressive online apps that come with MS Office365 is Sway. We take you through how to create and share interactive reports and presentations, tutorials, newsletters, stories, and more—from content you have stored locally or online.

We take you through MS Office365's various social apps that allow you to connect, share, stay updated, and collaborate with your colleagues in your SRSU program, department, organization or office. We'll look at how to use Yammer, Newsfeed, Video, and Delve and see how they can keep you informed and bring your team together!

A new addition to your faculty/staff resources is our SRSU Blog site found at http://blogs.sulross.edu/. Sul Ross Blogs is based on the WordPress application and grew out of a desire to allow the faculty and staff at SRSU to share ideas across the campus and around the world in a format that is accessible to the largest number of people and devices. We'll show you how to create your blog, set it up, and customize it to your needs!

Join us for these scheduled sessions to watch educational technology videos. The HITAP grant has recently purchased access to the Atomic Learning on-demand technology training website. On selected Tuesday and Thursday afternoons at 4:00 pm we will explore the Atomic Learning website. We will also watch selected videos from Blackboard Innovative Teaching Series. Popcorn will be provided!
This session covers online course design industry standards. We will look at the Quality Matters Rubric and the Blackboard exemplary course rubric to give faculty an idea of what is considered optimal online course design. The rubrics address learning objectives, assessment, learner engagement, technology and learner support.

The Assignment Tool in Blackboard allows an instructor to manage and grade regular written assignments.
SafeAssign is a plagiarism prevention tool that detects unoriginal content in students' papers by identifying areas of overlap between submitted assignments and existing works. SafeAssign can also be used to help students identify how to properly attribute sources rather than paraphrase without giving credit to the original source. The SafeAssign feature is effective as both a deterrent and an educational tool.

The announcement tool is a very powerful communication tool. You can add videos, audio, images and text to your class announcements. Use the announcement tool to recap previous activities and prepare students for future ones. The calendar tool helps keep students up to date and aware of upcoming assignments.

Get an overview of the different communication tools Blackboard offers. We will cover the discussion board, blogs, journals, wikis and the glossary too. Learn the differences between them and how and why you want to use them.

See the new inline grading interface and learn how rubrics can speed up the grading process. We will cover creating columns, organizing the grade center and how to add rubrics to assignments, discussion boards and other tools.

Learn how to set up quizzes and exams and reduce cheating. Respondus is a program that allows you to create your exams in Microsoft Word and upload them into Blackboard, saving time and eliminating the tedium of adding one question at a time.

We have just purchased the E-Portfolio tool for Blackboard. Learn how students can use this tool to collect artifacts and track their progress throughout their careers at Sul Ross.

Web conferencing offers the opportunity to talk to your students live and share your computer screen. We have just purchased Blackboard Collaborate. Blakcboard will be conducting several webinars for Sul Ross in October and November. Stay tuned for dates
