Chemistry Program
The curriculum in chemistry provides training for students who wish to pursue a career in chemistry, and a solid foundation for entry into postgraduate work in chemistry, or other professional areas, such as medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and related fields of study. The program offers a balance between classroom instruction and extensive laboratory work, using both wet chemical methods and sophisticated chemical instrumentation, in a well-equipped laboratory setting.
Training in all major areas of chemistry is offered in this program, emphasizing the relationship between chemical reactivity and molecular structure, and the physical foundations upon which our modern view of chemistry is based. Problem-solving methods are emphasized throughout the curriculum, using both theory and the practical application of laboratory methods to achieve results.
The program will require completion of a minimum of 123 hours of work, including 71 hours in general education, a minimum of 42 hours in chemistry (eight hours of chemistry are included in the general education category) and 18 hours for the minor. Note that six hours of the general education courses may be taken at RGC.
