Sul Ross State University awards a variety of scholarships each year, most of them to full-time students. The list of available scholarships for Rio Grande College students is found below.

To be considered, an applicant must have an admissions application on file in the Registrar's Office and must meet all the requirements for unconditional admission to SRSU and be in good academic and disciplinary standing.

Antonio R. Sanchez Sr. Memorial Scholarship

  • Student must be enrolled in a minimum of 9 hours, however, preference will be given to full time students.
  • Must have a Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must be a resident of a county served by IBC Bank of Eagle Pass.
  • Must submit a 150 word esay.
  • Must submit at least one reference, verifying completion of 50 hours of community service.
  • Must demonstrate financial need.
  • Recipient must agree to attend an approved Financial Literacy course.
  • If recipient withdraws from the university, they will be expected to repay scholarship amount.
  • Deadline: May 8, 2015

The Bank and Trust Scholarship

  • Student must be enrolled in a minimum of 9 hours, however, preference will be given to full time students.
  • Undergraduates must have a Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higer.
  • Graduates must have a Cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.
  • Must be a resident of a county served by The Bank and Trust of Del Rio.
  • Must submit a100-200 word essay about their understanding of financial responsibility.
  • Recipient must agree to attend an approved Financial Literacy course.
  • If recipient withdraws from university, they will be expected to repay scholarship amount.
  • Deadline: May 8, 2015

Edmund P. Kuempel Scholarship Program

  • Be accepted at SRSU.
  • Student must be enrolled in a course of study which results in an academic degree.
  • Candidate must have satisfactorily completed 12 hours of course work at an accredited institution with a GPA of at least 3.5. If accomplished at a non-Texas State University System school, completed coursework must be transferrable to the TSUS constituent institution.
  • The candidate must submit a short essay (no longer than a one-page, double-spaced) including a statement of the candidate’s goals and reasons for pursuing the degree.
  • The candidate must be a U.S. citizen and a resident of the state of Texas.
  • The candidate must not have received the scholarship previously.
  • Deadline: March 15, 2015.

Eagle Pass Rotary Scholarship

  • Must be a graduate of Eagle Pass High School or C. C. Winn High School.
  • Must be admitted to the SRSU-Rio Grande College Teacher Education Program.
  • Must be a resident of Eagle Pass and Maverick County.
  • Must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.5.
  • Deadline:  March 15, 2015.

Esmeralda Rosalia Avalos Teacher Education Scholarship

  • Scholarships are available for Fall & Spring.  
  • Eligible for admission to the SRSU-Rio Grande College teacher education program.
  • Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher (undergraduated) or 3.5 (graduates).
  • A brief essay (100-200 words) about their interest in and commitment to the teaching profession.
  • Recommendation from a SRSU-RGC education faculty member.
  • Preference given to full-time students.
  • Deadline:  March 15, 2015.

Esmeralda Rosalia Avalos Nursing Scholarship

  • Scholarships are available for Fall & Spring.  
  • Full admission to the BSN programs at SRSU-Rio Grande College.
  • Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher.
  • A brief essay (100-200 words) about their interest in and commitment to nursing as a profession.
  • Recommendation from a faculty member.
  • Preference given to full-time students.
  • Deadline:  March 15, 2015.

First State Bank of Uvalde Scholarship

  • Scholarships are available for Fall & Spring.  
  • Full admission and degree seeking at SRSU-Rio Grande College.
  • Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Must be a resident of a community served by First State Bank of Uvalde (Uvalde, Campwood, Carrizo Springs, Concan, Leakey, Sabinal, or Utopia).
  • A brief essay (100-200 words) about their understanding of financial responsibility.
  • Enrolled full-time.
  • Renewal dependent on maintaining all above conditions.
  • Recipient agrees to attend an approved Financial Literacy course.
  • Deadline:  March 15, 2015.

International Good Neighbor Council Scholarship

  • Scholarships are available for Fall & Spring.  
  • Must be Resident of Val Verde County or Kinney county.
  • Beginning students must be fully admitted to SRSU Rio Grande College, have an overall GPA of at least 3.0, and enrolled at least half-time during the period of award. 
  • Continuing students must be in good academic and disciplinary standing at the university, have an overall GPA of at least 3.0, and enrolled at least half-time during the period of award.
  • Deadline:  March 15, 2015.

Jefferson Barr Memorial Scholarship

  • Scholarships are available for Fall and Spring.
  • Must be a currently enrolled SRSU-Rio Grande College Criminal Justice major.
  • Must be a Texas resident making normal progress toward a Criminal Justice degree, have an overall GPA of at least 2.5, and enrolled at least half-time during the period of award. 
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or Permanent Resident. 
  • Deadline:  March 15, 2015.

Math & Science Scholarship

  • Must be a Math, Chemistry, Biology, or Computer Science major.
  • ust be a graduate of a district in the Middle Rio Grande region (Atascosa, Bandera, Edwards, Dimmit, Fio, Kerr, Kinney, La Salle, Maverick, Medina, Real, Uvalde, Val Verde, or Zavala).
  • Must have a cumulative average of at least 2.5.
  • Deadline:  March 15, 2015.

Maxey Companies Scholarship

  • Must be enrolled full time.
  • Must have a minimum 3.0 GPA for undergraduates or 3.5 GPA for graduates.
  • Must be a resident of a county served by Maxey Companies (Kerr, La Salle, Maverick, Val Verde, Uvalde).
  • Must submit a 100-200 word essay about your understanding of financial resposibility.
  • If recipient withdraws from university, they will be expected to repay scholarship amount.
  • Deadline: May 8, 2015

Praxedis Mata Torres Teacher Education

  • Must be uncoditionally admitted to SRSU-Rio Grande College
  • Must be admitted to the SRSU-Rio Grande College Teacher Education Program.
  • Submit a written essay (100-200 words) discussing why the student wants to become a teacher.
  • Recommendation from an RGC faculty member.
  • Preference will be given to graduates of high schools located within the SRSU-Rio Grande College service area.
  • Deadline:  March 15, 2015.

Sandra Stanley Coleman Scholarship

  • Scholarships are available for Fall & Spring
  • Must be a full time (12 hours) undergraduate student at SRSU-RGC during the period of award
  • Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Submit a written essay (200-400 words) discussing the student's future goals and any participation in community service work
  • Submit a letter of recommendation from one faculty member
  • Consideration will be given to students associated with the student association
  • Deadline:  March 15, 2015.

Student Service Fee Scholarship Fund-Graduate

  • Scholarships are available for Fall and Spring
  • Must be fully admitted.
  • Must be enrolled in at least 6 semester credit hours.
  • Must maintain at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA after a minimum of 6 credit hours and be in good disciplinary standing.
  • Deadline:  March 15, 2015.

Student Service Fee Scholarship Fund-Undergraduate

  • Scholarships are available for Fall and Spring
  • Must be fully admitted
  • Must be enrolled in at least 9 semester credit hours
  • Must  maintain at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA and be in good disciplinary standing
  • Deadline: March 15, 2015.

Valeriano (Bowie) Ibarra Memorial Scholarship

  • Scholarships are available for Fall and Spring
  • Begining students must be unconditionally admitted to Sul Ross State University Rio Grande College. 
  • Continuing students must be in good acadmic and disciplinary standing at Sul Ross State University Rio Grande College.
  • Must be a graduate of Uvalde High School enrolling at Sul Ross State University Rio Grande College. If no qualified applicant is available from Uvalde CISD, applicants meeting the criteria from the following counties will be considered: Atascosa, Dimmitt, Frio, Maverick, Medina, Uvalde, Val Verde and Zavala.
  • Must be admitted (or eligible for admission) to the Sul Ross State University Rio Grande College Teacher Education Program.
  • Must have a least a 2.75 GPA.  
  • Deadline:  March 15, 2015.
