Alternative Post Baccalaureate Initital Probationary Certification Program

Candidates holding a termainal degree in an area other thatn education may obtain probationary teching certification by meeting the following qualifications:

  1. Hold a bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited 4 year university.
  2. Have 24 hours (12 of which are upper level) in major field of study.
  3. Have a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
  4. Have a 2.5 grade point average in the courses specific to the teaching field.
  5. Completed 3 s.c.h.  computer science, 3 s.c.h. speech communication, and 12 s.c.h. English with a 2.5 GPA and no graes lower tha a "C".
  6. Furnish RGC  with a letter of "Intent to Hire" from public school district before enrolling in program.
  7. Be accepted for graduate admissions to Sul Ross State University Rio Grande College.
  8. Enroll in coursework each semester to fulfull requirement for professional development.
  9. Complete professional development requirements in one year.
  10. Recognize the Probationary certificate is good for one year.
  11. Enroll in a Internship in Teaching I (EDUC 4300) first semester (fall) and Internship in Teaching II (EDUC 4301) for second semester (spring).
  12. Have a mentor in the public school and a university supervisor.
