Application and Admissions Requirements

Undergraduate Students

Before a student will be admitted to Sul Ross State University, the following items must be on file in the Center for Enrollment Services. Call the Center for Enrollment Services, (432) 837-8053, or e-mail admissions@sulross.edu for information.

In addition to meeting the requirements for undergraduate admission, international students must file further documentation with the university. See the International Student information for details.

Admissions Checklist for Entering Freshmen

  1. Complete an application for admission. Apply using the Texas Common Application at www.applytexas.org. A one-time, non-refundable application fee of $25 is required. Freshman are eligible to receive a fee waiver when they submit the SAT or ACT fee waiver or send proof that they are eligible for, or receive, free or reduced lunches at school. Transfer students are eligible to receive a fee waiver when they submit a copy of their financial aid award letter showing that they received a Pell grant or other need based scholarship within the past year. Fax, email, or mail your fee waiver.
  2. Send your high school transcript. Ask your high school to send your official high school transcript through the latest semester you have completed. For high school seniors, this may be your high school transcript through the end of your junior year or the first semester of your senior year. If you have already graduated from high school, send your final high school transcript with your graduation date.
  3. Send your ACT or SAT test results. Some high schools include SAT and ACT test scores on their transcripts. Check with your counselor. To request SAT scores, go to www.collegeboard.com. To request ACT scores, go to www.act.org.

    *These students may be admitted under recommended or distinguished admission scores when they submit the UAP waiver or meet the following testing benchmarks for further admissions consideration:
    o SAT - 1500 out of 2400 (Critical Reading, Math AND Writing)
    o ACT - 18 English, 21 Reading, 22 Math and 24 Science
    Students graduating on the standard or minimum plan who meet benchmark scores will then be considered for admission based on class ranking and test scores.

Admissions Checklist for Transfer Students*

  1. Application for Admission. Apply using the Texas Common Application at www.applytexas.org. List all previously attended colleges or universities. A one-time, non-refundable application fee of $25 is required. Transfer students are eligible to receive a fee waiver when they submit a copy of their financial aid award letter showing that they received a Pell Grant or other need based scholarship within the past year.
  2. Official college/university transcripts from all institutions attended. Send official transcripts (faxes, copies and scans are not accepted) from all colleges and universities to Enrollment Services. Many colleges and universities send transcripts electronically and in most cases, Sul Ross receives those within two to three business days. Check with your university or college to determine if they send electronic transcripts.

*Transfer students have attempted college credit hours after high school graduation.The student must provide official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended. A cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or greater is required. The student must be in good standing with the most recently attended university or college.

**Students who do not have 12 transferable hours must meet both transfer and first time in college admission requirements.

***Transferable hours do not include remedial or developmental coursework; technical or vocational courses; courses taken for a certificate of completion or continuing education; chapel; and freshman seminar/study skills.
