Special Committee on Core Curriculum

At its October 27, 2011 meeting, the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board adopted a state-wide initiative for state universities that requires each state institution of higher education to review and revise current core curriculums to conform to Coordinating Board standards.  One provision is a 42 semester-credit-hour core.  The Coordinating Board also passed the following time-line for completing the task:

  • November 2011 to November 2013:  Faculty develop and select courses;
  • November 2013:  Institution’s proposed core curriculum due to Coordinating Board staff for review;
  • Fall 2014:  Statewide implementation of core curriculum for incoming freshmen.

At the April 10, 2012 meeting of the Executive Cabinet, Dr. Maestas approved the appointment of the following special committee to carry out the Coordinating Board mandate for Sul Ross State University:

Prof. Dona Roman, Chair (Arts and Sciences)
Dr. Bonnie Warnock (Agriculture and Natural Resource Sciences)
Dr. Patricia Harveson (Agriculture and Natural Resource Sciences)
Dr. Angela Brown (Arts and Sciences)
Dr. Mark Emerson (Arts and Sciences)
Dr. Lorie Rubenser (Professional Studies)
