Productivity Tools Project
In keeping with the trends in Higher Education to reduce costs, provide greater access and collaboration and to ensure the highest level of availability of technology resources, Sul Ross is embarking on an evaluation of a new suite of productivity tools for faculty, staff and students of the university. By moving these productivity services from an in-house managed infrastructure to one hosted in the cloud, Sul Ross will achieve the levels of availability desired while lowering the total cost of providing these services. Having these services in the cloud will also allow them to be available anytime, anywhere and on any device chosen. Having a common productivity platform will also allow greater collaboration across the university as each person works with the same software and the same version as all other members of the community.
To achieve these goals, Sul Ross will evaluate Google's Apps for Education (gMail, Calendar, Docs, Drive, Hangouts, etc.) as well as Microsoft's Office 365 (email, calendaring, Word, Excel, Lync, etc.) and determine which option is best suited for the environment and people at Sul Ross.
