Sul Ross Presidential Search Committee Announced
An 18-member Advisory Search Committee for the next Sul Ross State University President was announced today (Wednesday, Jan. 29).
Appointments were made by Donna Williams, Arlington, Chair of the Board of Regents of the Texas State University System (TSUS), according to an announcement by Dr. Perry Moore, TSUS Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. The committee, following the search process, will recommend finalists to Dr. Brian McCall, TSUS Chancellor, who will make the selection.
Dr. Ricardo Maestas, 11th Sul Ross President, resigned in late November. Dr. Quint Thurman, Provost and Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs, was appointed interim president.
“This is an impressive committee that is well able to recommend finalists for the next President of the university to the Chancellor and Board of Regents,” Moore’s memorandum stated.
“I look forward to working with the committee and university in finding the next President of Sul Ross State University,” the memorandum said.
Regent Charlie Amato, San Antonio, will serve as chair of the Advisory Search Committee. Other members are Regents Williams; Vice Chair Ron Mitchell, Horseshoe Bay; and Rossanna Salazar, Austin; Dr. Lorie Rubenser, professor of Criminal Justice and chair of the Faculty Assembly; Dr. Bonnie Warnock, professor and chair of Natural Resource Management; Dr. Sharon Hileman, professor and chair of Languages and Literature; Dr. Patricia Nicosia, professor of Mathematics and chair of the Department of Natural and Social Sciences, Rio Grande College; Dr. Monica Gutierrez, associate professor of Education, RGC; Dr. Paul Sorrels, professor, Associate Provost and Dean of RGC; Denise Groves, Vice President of Enrollment Management; Elizabeth Pena, director, Small Business Development Center, RGC; Anna Sandoval, President, Student Government Association; Ken Batchelor, San Antonio, alumnus and President, Ken Batchelor Cadillac; Dr. Hector Gonzales, President, Southwest Texas Junior College; Dave Rogers, President, West Texas National Bank, Alpine; Steve White, Superintendent, Alpine Independent School District; and Raymond Richardson, Lubbock, Board of Directors, Sul Ross Alumni Association and Vice President for Advancement, Lubbock Christian University.
