The Marfa Studio of Arts is pleased to present Clayers, a show of functional and non-functional ceramics by the students of Sul Ross State University. The show represents the relationship of student work to mentor work and is made up of pieces by professor Gregory Tegarden and his 18 students at SRSU. Clayers will be on display in The Marfa Studio of Arts, 106 East San Antonio Street, Marfa, TX 79843, from April 1st through April 21st, 2015. Gallery Hours: 10:00am to 5:00pm Saturday and Sunday.

The ceramic work in Clayers documents the mentor and student relationship that all clayers utilize in the development of becoming an artist. A mentor of professor Gregory Tegarden, Louis Katz, coined the term clayer. He defines it as "Not a ceramist, nor a ceramicist, I am not a potter. I am a clayer. Clayers have a set of primary aesthetic principals that are different from those of other art areas. We talk of form and function, surface and volume, breath and bones. Our primary forms are vessels. We stress volume over mass or structure."
