Fall 2017 Lottery Process

 

We are very excited to unveil a project we’ve been working very hard on these past few months; the lottery process. The lottery process will allow students to pick exactly where they want to live, no more building requests or room requests and hoping to get the room you wanted, you can log on and pick your room yourself!

Now before you log into Symplicity and start trying to pick your room right now there are a few things you should know first.

  • On April 10th an email will be sent out, letting you know your selection time and date, please keep in mind that not everyone will select their room at the same time. (more about that later)
  • The lottery will begin on April 17th, meaning you’ll be able to log into Symplcity and select your room.
  • The lottery splits students into groups based on two specific criteria:
    • Application date
    • Class year
      • This means that the sooner you applied, congrats! The further ahead you’ll be in line to select your room. This also means that upper classmen will have a slight advantage in selection time. For example, if a freshman and a junior apply on the same day, the junior will have selection priority over the freshman.
  • Once you select your room, that’s it. You are locked in. You cannot move rooms or switch roommates. So choose carefully!

*PLEASE KEEP IN MIND*

The lottery process is not always a guarantee.

Residential Living reserves the right to move people if needed, in case of emergency, or other circumstances. However Residential Living will attempt to honor any lottery selections.

If you are trying to room with a specific roommate you will need to create your roommate group BEFORE the process begins. Which means this roommate group will need to be created before April 17th or it will not be honored in the lottery process. Roommate groupings will not be done manually by the office of Residential Living.

The lottery process DOES NOT guarantee that you will safe from tripling. We are anticipating having the most triples we’ve ever had this year, this means that even if you are first in line to pick your room there is still potential that you will have a third roommate. However there are a few things you should know about tripling:

  • The third roommate in a tripled room will be assigned the “C” slot
  • The “C” resident will share the “B” bedroom with the “B” resident. Meaning the “A” resident will only share the common areas with the third roommate.
  • We move “C” assignments as soon as we can.
  • There is a compensation plan!
