Prospective Honors Students
The fact that you are reading this means that you have given thought to raising the level of your education. In times of rising higher education prices, it is in your best interest to maximize the money you will spend on your education.
In essence, you want to put as much value in your degree as you possibly can. This can be accomplished by participating and successfully completing your degree while in the Honors Program.
The goal of the SRSU honors program is to offer students who have shown evidence of excellence an opportunity to take advantage of additional experiences that may not be presented by taking the required curriculum for a bachelor’s degree.
To this end, you will be offered opportunity to attend seminars, participate in academic competitions and attend lectures that will further their understanding on topical subjects outside of their major course of study. In addition to these activities, various honors courses with an array of topics will be offered.
Courses carrying the HONS designation will be offered as part of your core studies. Freshman level courses will begin to prepare you to think and work independently as well as give you a forum to share your thoughts and ideas with others. The topics of these courses will vary each offering but will center on core curriculum requirements. On the other end of the spectrum, the senior level course (HONS 4300) will allow you to collaborate with faculty on a special project. Departments from the various disciplines across the Sul Ross community will also offer honors sections of their courses. The courses the departments offer will be in the professors' areas of expertise and will allow for an in depth look at specific topics.
You might be asking yourself if you can handle the added responsibilities of the SRSU Honors Program. Though courses and activities may require more reading, writing, and outside class time, the SRSU Honors Program is not intended to pile on work but to challenge and stimulate your intellect and interests.
Thus, the energy and drive to complete assignments and/or activities that may be above and beyond will come from the sense of empowerment and accomplishment you will feel for meeting the intellectual challenge.
If you feel that you are up to the task of being part of an experience that will provide great rewards, take time to complete an application for admittance to the SRSU Honors Program at Sul Ross State University.
