GED

ELIGIBILITY: Must not have graduated from high school and not be currently enrolled in high school. Must be 18 years of age, or be 17 years old and produce parental or guardian permission to test. Sixteen-year-olds test only by order of the courts. Court order should be presented on court letterhead and include a case number.

TEST VERSIONS: Both English and Spanish print versions are available. Tests in different languages may not be mixed; for example, Spanish test scores may not be combined with English test scores to comprise a completed battery.

TEST SCHEDULE: Tests are offered the last Thursday and Friday of each month-with the exeption of months where these days fall on a holiday( for example Thanksgiving), and in June. Tests are then given the Thursday and Friday before. There are no scheduled test dates in December. Call the Testing office or stop by for exact test dates.

REGISTRATION: It is mandatory that Examinees register at least one week in advance and should call the testing center for an appointment to complete the registration process. Please allow at least one hour for the registration process. Examinees must produce positive, legal photo identification in order to test. Examinees must complete the following prior to testing: an application/registration to test, a score release form (if more than one score report is desired), a confidentiality statement, and a demographics registration form.

FEES: Payment for testing must be received in advance at the time of registration; the fee for the entire battery (which includes the fee for the certificate) is $75. The fee for each retest is $15 per test. Please submit the required fee payable to Sul Ross State University, in cash, check or money order.

TESTING PROCEDURES: All GED tests at Sul Ross State University will be administered in room 211-B of the University Center. Testing is provided in two day sessions (Thursday-Friday) from 8:30 a.m. to aproximately 3 p.m. We ask that you arrive 30 minutes prior to the scheduled test start time. Aids such as notebooks, dictionaries or calculators are not allowed. Testing procedures are read to examinees before testing begins. There are limited seats available, so preregistration is required. Testing schedule and additional information is available in UC Suite 211 on the GED Information table.

ACCOMMODATIONS: Special accommodations are available for those who qualify. Please contact Career Services and Testing at least a month in advance to fill out appropriate request forms. Some accommodations are available that do not require documentation. Please check with the Testing office regarding these aids prior to the test date.

GRADING, SCORE REPORTS AND CERTIFICATES: Multiple-choice answer documents and essays are sent to Austin for scoring immediately after the testing cycle. Examinees will receive the score letter and/or certificate (if they pass) from the Austin office approximately two weeks after the examination.

PASSING SCORES AND RETESTS: Examinees must achieve a minimum passing standard set by the GED Testing Service which is a minimum of 410 on each test and an average of 450 overall (or 2250 total standard score points). If the examinee does not pass one or more tests (with the minimum score of 410), he or she may retake the test(s). Candidates are permited to test up to three times during the year(January 1 to December 31). If the examinee passes, a GED certificate will be issued to them by the Texas Education Agency and a permanent record (transcript) will be kept at the GED office in Austin.
