Business makes things happen and affects every aspect of society. Whatever a student selects a career, an understanding of business is a valuable tool. Often when students think of business careers, they envision jobs in large companies. The fact is that many more business-related careers exist in every field in small businesses, non-profit organizations, government agencies, the arts, and educational settings.

The Department of Business Administration at Sul Ross State University offers three degrees, a minor and a certificate program:

Bachelor of Arts Degree in Administrative Systems and Business Technology (BA in ASBT), 120 semester credits hours

Bachelor of Business Administration Degree (BBA), 120 semester credit hours

Master of Business Administration Degree (MBA), 36 semester credit hours, offered in three formats:

Minor in Business Administration, 18 semester credit hours

Minor in Adminstrative Systems & Business Technology, 18 semester credit hours

Certificate in Office Technology, 41 semester credit hours.

CAREERS

The Bachelor of Business Administration degree program prepares the undergraduate for managerial and administrative positions in any type of organization. This includes regional, national, and international private industry and enterprise; non-profit organizations; non-governmental organizations; and local, state, and federal government offices and agencies. The business undergraduate is equipped to pursue employment in a functional favorite such as accounting, economics, management, or marketing, and in a personal interest area including music, film, science, transportation, or whatever your inclination is.

The MBA degree can be used to launch, transition, or expand career opportunities. Career options are expansive including large corporations in traditional industries, the financial industry, health care, non-profits, the arts, entrepreneurial ventures, non-governmental organizations, and local, state, and federal government offices and agencies.

The Bachelor of Arts degree in Administrative Systems and Business Technology prepares the student for employment as an administrative assistant, executive assistant, training specialist, computer applications specialist, business coordinator or supervisor, or general office manager.

The Department of Business Administration sees its Mission as the leading regional institution of excellence in business education. The Department's resources are dedicated to graduating students that meet the organization performance expectations and demands of West Texas, the State of Texas, and the global environment. The Department is dedicated to providing its students with degrees and programs that are accessible and responsive to the dynamic environments of these organizations.

OBJECTIVES

Achievement of this vision and mission requires the following objectives: provision of quality business degree, minor, and certificate programs; matching the expectations of employers and students; maximizing the probability of student hire; and maximizing the probability of student and business success.
