The Title V Science Initiative of Sul Ross State University and Midland College is a program dedicated to the research, development, and delivery of Distance Education courses in the sciences.
The ongoing focus of this program will be sending upper-level undergraduate science courses from Sul Ross to Midland College utilizing simulcast two-way video presentation, the web and emerging technologies. The Science Initiative of Sul Ross State University has been made possible by the Rural Texas Science Transfer Initiative HSI Grant Title V, MC-SRSU.

The Science Initiative under Title V has created the opportunity to combine the strengths of both institutions in an unprecedented union particularly addressing the needs of Hispanic, 1st year, and other non-traditional students. The Science Initiative will bring the elements of upper-division coursework in the sciences to the front door of Midland residents, simultaneously addressing the particular unmet needs of non-traditional students, and providing opportunities in the sciences in our mutual home; West Texas.
Through the Science Initiative we will accomplish three basic goals:
- Strengthening lower-level science curricula at Midland College.
- Developing upper-level science curricula for distance delivery at Sul Ross.
- Creating a seamless science transfer program between MC and SRSU.
To meet these objectives, the Science Initiative will begin by developing upper-level Biology classes for initial release in 2004.
