Criminal Justice Honor Society

Sul Ross State University's Criminal Justice Department provides students the opportunity to gain entrance into the National Criminal Justice Honor Society.

Alpha Phi Sigma

Membership into Alpha Phi Sigma is limited to Criminal Justice majors or minors. You must have completed 45 semester hours with a 3.2 minimum GPA. A minimum of 3.2 GPA is required in Criminal Justice courses. Graduate Students must have a 3.4 cummulative GPA. Good moral character and ranking in the top 35 percent of your class are also requirements. Qualified students should see Dr. Rubenser for an application.

Membership benefits may include pay grade increases in federal service and other employment benefits appropriate to the particular job.

Alpha Epsilon Xi

Alpha Epsilon Xi is the local chapter of Alpha Phi Sigma. Members meet each month, attend national conferences and are active in both university and community projects.

Members are involved in projects such as Thanksgiving Food Drives for the local food bank and other service activities.This year's food drive collected 266 pounds of canned goods. Stay tuned for the first annual Easter canned food drive in the spring semester.

Alpha Phi Sigma provides scholarship opportunities for members. Their goal is to improve the level of professionalism in law enforcement.

During the Spring 2005 semester several members were able to go to the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences annual conference in Chicago. Students will be raising money for the Spring 2008 trip to Boston.

Fund raisers this year included sales of Krispy Kreme Donuts.

How to Join

Interested students who meet the qualifications can pick up an application in the Criminal Justice office or use the MS Word version online (save it to your computer before filling it out). Fill out the application and return it with a one time non-refundable payment of $45. Look for meeting announcements to be posted on the bulletin board outside the CJ office or on classroom doors.
