Fall 2009 Faculty-Staff-Student Workshops

What are the MITS Instructional Training Workshops? MITS staff have developed a number of workshops geared toward faculty and staff use of educational technologies (certain student oriented workshops may also be announced each semester).

These workshops are absolutely FREE to SRSU faculty and staff! Most workshops are only 45 minutes to an hour (unless otherwise noted: * indicates an hour and a half or longer workshop)!

All workshops will be held in the 2nd floor classroom of the SRSU library (unless otherwise noted).

Workshops offered during the SRSU Fall 2009 Workshop season:

SEPTEMBER

9th (Wednesday) 2:00-3:00pm - MS Excel: The Basics (Office 2007) This workshop is for the beginner who wants to learn the basics of MS Excel. This workshop will cover: Creating a basic Excel spreadsheet, spreadsheet navigation, borders and shading, basic math functions, headers and footers, inserting and deleting worksheets and lines.

14th (Monday) 3:00-4:00pm - MS Excel: The Basics (Office 2007) This workshop is for the beginner who wants to learn the basics of MS Excel. 21st (Monday) 2:00-3:00pm – MS Excel: Intermediate Excel Features (Office 2007) This workshop is for more experienced Excel users. It covers: formulas, relative and absolute cell addresses, fractions, formatting cells, linking and filtering data, importing Excel files into Word, and the Lookup function.

23rd (Wednesday) 3:00-4:00pm – MS Excel: Intermediate Excel Features (Office 2007) This workshop is for more experienced Excel users. It covers: formulas, relative and absolute cell addresses, fractions, formatting cells, linking and filtering data, importing Excel files into Word, and the Lookup function.

30th (Wednesday) 2:00-3:00pm – Blackboard Tests & Pools This workshop is designed for the more experienced Blackboard user who wants to use everything Blackboard has to offer. This workshop covers quick ways to create question pools, ideas for maintaining the integrity of your online tests, using the Question Pool Generator, and creating tests from test pools.

OCTOBER

7th (Wednesday) 2:00-3:00pm – MS Word: Graphics (Office 2007) This workshop is for the intermediate MS Word user. Upon completion you will be able to apply the following graphic enhancements to your document: 1) Insert and modify Clip Art images and other graphics. 2) Use the Drawing Toolbar or Insert Ribbon to insert objects into a document. 3) Format objects. 4) Wrap text around objects. 5) Insert WordArt and text boxes. 6) Insert a watermark and a drop cap.

12th (Monday)
2:00-3:00pm - MS Word: Auto Text, Annotations, and Commenting (Office 2007)
This workshop is for the intermediate to advanced MS Word user and examines ways in which instructors can automate portions of their grading using AutoText while also staying paperless by using the commenting functions that Word offers. Automated grading and commenting: Provides consistent notation, allows for more elaborate feedback, helps students learn from errors, helps students revise their work, and allows you and your students to interact completely electronically as documents go back and forth between you.
 
21st (Wednesday) 2:00-3:00pm - MS Word: Forms (Office 2007) In this workshop, you will learn how to create fill-in forms from Word documents. The workshop will cover: adding text areas, creating check boxes, drop down selection fields, adding actions and methods, and creating neat and aligned form areas.

NOVEMBER

4th (Wednesday) 2:00-3:00pm – Acrobat Forms (Office 2007) This workshop uses Acrobat Professional and covers creating fill-in forms in Acrobat, which allows them to be submitted via the internet and through email.
 
9th (Monday) 2:00-3:00pm – MS Word: Mail Merge This workshop is for the intermediate MS Word user. It covers the steps used in combining a list of names with a form letter to produce individualized letters. With this process, it is possible to produce large numbers of letters from a single template and to quickly address envelopes or mailing labels for the letters.
