Goals, Objectives and Strategies

Strategic Goal I: Recruit, retain and graduate a diverse and capable undergraduate and graduate student body

Objective 1: Strengthen the "student-centered" philosophy of SRSU

  • Strategy 1-1-1: Examine all academic processes (for example, applying for graduation) to identify and implement student friendly practices. (Academic Affairs)

Objective 2: Provide high quality student life programs and activities

  • Strategy 1-2-1: Develop and improve co-curricular programs that promote leadership, volunteerism and social responsibility. (Enrollment Management & Student Services)

Objective 3: Restructure and enhance recruiting efforts

Strategic Goal II: Improve commitment to faculty and staff

Objective 1: Provide a work environment that recognizes excellence in service, provides advancement opportunities, encourages professional growth, and nourishes creative thinking, scholarship, and teaching

Objective 2: Enhance the awareness and appreciation of diversity among faculty and staff

Objective 3: Emphasize high quality teaching and scholarship

Strategic Goal III: Enhance undergraduate and graduate programs

Objective 1: Provide high-quality faculty and facilities; lifelong learning opportunities; and a diverse curriculum that is solidly grounded in communication, analytical, social and computational skills

Objective 2: Assess and restructure existing programs/curriculum

Objective 3: Develop and implement new programs that serve the needs of the region

Strategic Goal IV: Establish our role as a regional leader in higher education

Objective 1: Provide more educational, extension, outreach, and public service programs

Objective 2: Enhance public service and image throughout the region

Objective 3: Reinforce and build the alumni association and its role in the success of the university.

Objective 4: Augment and intensify institutional advancement

Objective 5: Improve physical facilities and accessibility to campus facilities

  • Strategy 4-5-3: Strengthen proactive maintenance program for facilities and grounds. (Administrative Services)

Objective 6: Build support for athletics and other co-curricular activities and strengthen the role each plays in enhancing institutional image and visibility

  • Strategy 4-6-1: Identify and provide the maximum available funding to strengthen intercollegiate athletics and other co-curricular activities. (Business Affairs)
  • Strategy 4-6-2: Encourage faculty attendance and participation at intercollegiate athletic and all co-curricular events. (Academic Affairs)

Strategic Goal V. Increase proficiency and use of information and technology to better serve students, communicate more effectively with constituents and more efficiently manage resources

Objective 1: Develop and implement a technologically effective registration and advising system

  • Strategy 5-1-1: Provide university administrators, faculty and staff access to appropriate data for decision-making and advisement. (Enrollment Management & Student Services)
  • Strategy 5-1-2: Implement fully all academic features of the Student Information System. (Academic Affairs)
  • Strategy 5-1-3: Enhance and maintain an effective administrative computer system. (Business Affairs)

Objective 2: Increase the availability and quality of educational technology

  • Strategy 5-2-1: Provide appropriate and effective educational technology in support of high quality instruction and scholarship. (Business Affairs)
  • Strategy 5-2-2: Pursue external funding and industrial partnerships to increase the availability and quality of educational technology. (Academic Affairs)

Objective 3: Maximize efficiency across campus through the utilization of technology

  • Strategy 5-3-1: Strengthen technology training programs for students, staff, faculty, and the community. (Business Affairs)
  • Strategy 5-3-2: Provide appropriate and effective technology. (Business Affairs)
  • Strategy 5-3-3: Evaluate administrative processes and systems to identify opportunities to utilize technology for improvement. (Business Affairs)

Strategic Goal VI: Strengthen commitment to the strategic planning process

Objective 1: Develop, implement and evaluate action plans that are consistent with institutional strategic goals, objectives and strategies

  • Strategy 6-1-1: Establish (by May 1, 2003) unit action plans. (All Areas)
  • Strategy 6-1-2: Initiate implementation (by September 1, 2003) of unit action plans. (All Areas)
  • Strategy 6-1-3: Provide, by April 1 each year, an evaluation report by the Strategic Planning Committee for each action plan. (Strategic Planning Committee)

Objective 2: Provide the resources and support necessary to successfully implement all strategic goals

  • Strategy 6-2-1: Implement strategic plan through budget allocation and reallocation to the extent possible. (Business Affairs)

Objective 3: Implement a plan to effectively communicate and implement the Strategic Plan

  • Strategy 6-3-1: Develop a process to collect and assess the unit action plans and disseminate results. (Strategic Planning Committee)

Objective 4: Develop an assessment plan for and a system to revise the Strategic Plan on an annual basis

  • Strategy 6-4-1: By April 15 of each year, beginning in 2004, each unit will make recommendations for revisions to the University strategic goals. (Strategic Planning Committee)
  • Strategy 6-4-2: Establish institutional effectiveness measures to be tracked by Institutional Research. (Enrollment Management & Student Services)
