The county seat of Brewster County, ALPINE began its life as Osborne, a small railroad watering stop in the early 1880s. Today, it acts as host to many vacationers to the Davis Mountains and Big Bend National Park.

Travelers aren't the only ones who stay in Alpine, though. Many people choose to live in this rural setting. With a nine-hole golf course, baseball's Kokernot Field, the city library and a municipal airport, not to mention Sul Ross State University, the Museum of the Big Bend and the Big Bend Regional Medical Center, the population is growing.

For the "senior citizens" ready for retirement, Alpine offers many activities through various channels. Some of these are the Sunshine House -- a multipurpose senior center, the Community Center, the Country Club and the Alpine Valley Care Center.
