Geology Program
The Department of Geology and Chemistry, located in the Barton H. Warnock Science Building and in the Science Annex, has available to the student some of the most modern educational and research equipment to be found in the Southwest. A scanning electron microscope and an automated electron probe microanalyzer are available for use. A computer controlled x-ray fluorescence analyzer, an automated neutron gamma ray spectrometer, and a computer operated x-ray diffraction unit are also part of the analytical facilities. The department also has the following: cathode luminescence, atomic absorption spectrometer, clean lab facilities, low temperature plasma asher, Hach portable water analysis lab, rock and mineral preparation laboratory, Vreeland direct reading spectroscope, Frantz isodynamic magnetic mineral separator, desk computers, rock thin sectioning equipment, field geology surveying equipment, Magellan GPS units, and audio-visual equipment.
