Q: When are the graduate classes in Education offered?

Answer: Graduate classes in the Education Department at Sul Ross State University-Alpine are offered in a convenient weekend format. During Spring and Fall semesters, classes meet on four designated weekends (Saturdays 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sundays 8 a.m.-noon). They are designed as either Weekend I, Weekend II, or Weekend III Format. For Summer sessions the format is slightly modified, classes meet on designated days (i.e. Mondays 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and Tuesdays 8 a.m.-noon, or Wednesday/Thursdays or Saturday/Sundays) for four consecutive weeks in Sessions I and II. They are designated as Weekend Format M/T, W/R, S/U. Students are to check the schedule for course offerings and the dates for weekend classes each semester on-line use Student Services link for schedules.

Q: How many hours may I take as a graduate student?

 Answer: Students may enroll in a maximum of 9 semester credit hours (sch) during the Fall and Spring terms, and a maximum of 6 sch in each of the two summer sessions. Students may join the program at the beginning of any term.

Q: Who are the advisors in the Education Department?

Answer: The Graduate Program Advisors web page will tell you who to contact and provide contact information.

Q: Do you offer on-line web classes or do I have to come to Alpine for classes?

Answer: Some courses may be offered as distance education classes (to El Paso) or may be offered as web (full web) or web-enhanced (part web) classes. These are designated in the course schedule for each registration period. Students are to check the schedule for course offerings. See the Student Services link for on-line schedules www.sulross.edu

Q: How do I register for graduate classes?

Answer: You must consult with an advisor in your program before attempting to register for classes; see the list of advisors. You may register online through Banner Self-Service. Graduate Application form is available online http://www.applytexas.org. Or you may pick up an application form on campus in the Briscoe Building, Room 202. 

Q: What graduate programs do you offer?

Answer: See the Graduate Programs in Education page for information and links to more on individual programs. Currently we offer Master of Education degrees in:

  • General Education
  • Reading
  • School Administration
  • Counseling
  • Educational Diagnostician

Q: How many courses can be transferred from another university to the SRSU degrees?

Answer: A maximum of 12 semester credit hours in graduate work that is appropriate to the degree is accepted, however, students must consult with an advisor in the degree field for transcripts to be reviewed to determine what is acceptable. Consult the SRSU Catalog pages 97-98 for additional information.

Q: How do I find out which weekends classes meet?

Answer: Consult the last pages of the posted SRSU Class Schedule (online www.sulross.edu).

Classes will be designated Weekend I, Weekend II or Weekend III. These classes rotate by weekend designation number every about every three (3) weeks throughout the semester. Specific dates are listed each semester in the Class Schedule.

Q: What are the requirements for a second master's degree?

Answer: Students should consult with an advisor in their program and the SRSU Catalog page 102-103 for details. This is subject to the approval of the dean or director of a division, and the department head.
