To Clip Collars off of a DRG

  1. Set your working directory.
  2. Load the Spatial analyst extension.
  3. Load the DRG.
  4. Convert the drg to a grid (Theme/convert to grid). Say yes to add theme to view, don't worry that it is a funky color.
  5. Draw a graphic polygon along the edge of to map. Use the polygon tool. Everything inside of this will be retained, so take some care at this step while creating this. Try right-click/zoom in/out and pan tools while creating it.
  6. Go to a new script.
  7. Load the grextrct.ave script as a text file (find it at gisdata\scripts_etc\grextrct.ave).
  8. Compile the script.
  9. Go back to the view. Make sure the drg grid theme is active and that the polygon graphic is selected.
  10. Go back to the script. Press the running man icon -- it should work.
  11. Go back to the view. A new grid should have been created that is only in the inside of the polygon. Don't worry that the colors are funky.
  12. Double-click on the new extracted grid in the TOC.
  13. In the Legend editor, press "Load." Navigate to gisdata\drg\clipped\clip_legend.avl. Press OK, choose "All" and apply. This will set the colors similar to that of the original DRG.
  14. Delete the polygon graphic.

Every time you reload this grid, you will have to reload the legend colors. Oh well, not everything is perfect.
