Pre-Engineering Program

See the Pre-Engineering Plan:

Students interested in pursuing an engineering degree might consider attending Sul Ross State University and enrolling in the pre-engineering program.

This is a two-year program designed to provide students with a low-cost beginning on their engineering degree. Students will work on specific math, science and other general-education classes in preparation for transferring to a university that offers an engineering bachelor degree.

Pre-Engineering Scholarship Opportunity

Interested students may qualify for a scholarship created by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. The awards are up to $5,000 per student. To qualify, a student must:

  • be enrolled as a freshman or sophomore in an undergraduate engineering degree program at a public university;
  • have graduated from high school in the top 20 percent of his or her graduating class;
  • have graduated from high school with a grade point average of at least 3.5 on a four-point scale or the equivalent in mathematics and science courses offer under the recommended or advanced high school program; and
  • maintain an overall grade point average of 3.0 on a four-point scale at the general academic teaching institution in which the student is enrolled.

For details about the program or the scholarship, contact David Martin, chair of Computer Science and Mathematics, at dmartin@sulross.edu or (432) 837-8109.
