Graduate Programs in Education

The main objective of the Department of Education's graduate programs is to enable students to further their studies in chosen specialized fields. Students may obtain a general master's degree with options available for certification.

Other programs lead to certification in counseling, educational diagnostician, reading specialist, master reading teacher, principal and superintendent.

A master's degree requires completion of a minimum of 36 semester credit hours of prescribed coursework. A grade point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale, with no grade lower than a C, is required for the master's degree and certification programs.

A master's comprehensive examination must be taken in the last semester of coursework required.

Applicants for the graduate programs at Sul Ross must meet the admissions requirements for graduate studies, which includes holding a bachelor’s degree from an institution approved by a nationally-recognized accrediting agency.
