Generic Special Education
Supplemental Certification
Generic Special Education certification at Sul Ross State University – Alpine is offered only as a supplemental certificate to an existing teaching certificate. Courses are graduate level and require admission to the Graduate Program at SRSU-Alpine.
Supplemental certification in Generic Special Education requires 24 semester hours in Education related to handicapped, psycho-educational, diagnostic assessment and resource areas. Supplemental certification level will correspond with the initial certification level; i.e., elementary, middle school, secondary or all level.

Certification
For certification, the applicant must:
- Hold a valid Texas teaching certificate
- Complete a minimum of one year teaching in a T.E.A. accredited school in special education
- Pass ExCET/TExES #011, Generic Special Education.
