Department of Criminal Justice

The Criminal Justice Program at Sul Ross State University uses classic academic education, profession specific training, and supervised experiential learning to meet the diverse needs of students pursuing a career within the Criminal Justice System.

The program prepares students for a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice or a Master of Science graduate degree. The department also offers a Dual Degree Program with Public Administration where students can receive a master's degree in both disciplines at the same time.

Criminal Justice graduates will be able to successfully compete in today's challenging employment marketplace. A vast array of opportunities currently exists for both men and women in law enforcement, corrections, probation and parole at all levels of government.

What is Criminal Justice?

Criminal Justice is a profession specific discipline that encompasses the preservation and protection of social order in a free society. It includes such principles as democracy, rule of law, constitutionalism, civil liberties and the safeguarding of citizens against intimidation and oppression by government.

The Criminal Justice curriculum at Sul Ross State University is intended to prepare students for demanding professional careers in criminal justice. Criminal Justice students are both encouraged and expected to continue their personal and professional development in a variety of practical settings after their successful completion of our program.
