Certificate in Farrier Tech

The Department of Animal Science offers a Farrier Technology Certificate Program that is designed to prepare students to meet the minimum industry standards for entry into the farrier profession. The prerequisite for admission is high school graduation or equivalent (GED).

Following are the required couses and their suggested sequence for the Certificate in Farrier Technology.

Fall
ANSC 1400, Basic Farrier Training - 4 hrs
ANSC 2307, Blacksmithing - 3 hrs
ANSC 2414, Specialized Breed-Type Shoeing - 4 hrs

Spring
ANSC 2601, Advanced Farrier Training - 6 hrs
ANSC 3314, Farrier Business Applications & Ethics - 3 hrs
ANSC 2603, Lameness Physiology - 6 hrs

Summer
ANSC 4601, Techniques in Agricultural Enterprises - 6 hrs
