CLEP

The College Level Examination Program is a testing program which enables students to receive course credit by taking an exam. Students can earn up to 30 semester hours of credit by exam.

Prior to enrollment, new students who have not attempted college credit before may submit acceptable scores from a general or subject exam and will receive credit only in those subjects in which they have not earned academic credit. Enrolled students are eligible to take subject examinations only if they have not attempted the course.

Students will not receive credit by examination for a course in which they have received failing grades or for a basic course in an area in which they have acceptable college credit for more advanced courses. New students may want to arrange to take the test(s) during orientation or prior to regular registration in order to facilitate their advising and enrollment. Test results can now be gotten immediately because the test is now on computer.

FEES: The total cost for each test is $75.00, payable in two parts: a fee of $60.00 per test, in check or money order made payable to CLEP (due the day of the test), and $15.00 in cash, money order, or check, paid to Sul Ross State University for the administration (due the day of registration).

RESTRICTIONS: Scores are sent to the student and to the registrar of each designated school between two and four weeks after the test. CLEP exams may not be retaken for six months. Each test is about 90 minutes in length, and optional essays require an additional time period.

WHEN: CLEP tests will be available throughout the semester. A reservation for a test date may be made by contacting the Office of Career Services and Testing at (432) 837-8357.
