The Residence Hall Staff

Our residence hall staff is made up of caring people selected and trained with you in mind. Each hall is supervised by a live-in professional who will serve you as an administrator, counselor and friend. In an effort to enhance your residence hall experience, educational, social and recreational programs are provided each semester for your enrichment and enjoyment.

Be assured that we plan to make your residential experience a memorable one for years to come. If you feel that you would like to join our caring staff please feel free to apply at the Residential Living Office.

Types of Positions

Resident Assistant (RA)

A student staff member called a Resident Assistant is assigned to each floor or wing in the residence hall. The Resident Assistant or R.A. is responsible for working with the individual students living on their floor to provide assistance in dealing with academic, social or emotional concerns and for promoting a comfortable living and learning environment.

It is part of the R.A.'s job to see that residents abide by the rules and regulations of Residential Living and the university. The hall staff join together to plan activities for the residents to help students become acquainted and involved. The RA is a valuable resource for students in meeting the challenges of college life.

Students who have at least one semester of residential living experience, a 2.5 G.P.A. or better, and want to be a leader may apply by contacting W. Tramaine Rausaw, Director of Residential Living in the Residential Living Office or at wrausaw@sulross.edu.

Summer Conference Assistant (SCA)

During the summer months, residence halls are occupied by a high volume of summer conference/group guests.  These guests require a different type of service and often use their own RAs and chaperones to look after their participants.  To compliment each group's own residential compenent, Residential Living student staff members called summer conference assistants are available to make sure our facilities and services are meeting the residential needs of guests.

It is part of the SCA's job to check-in/check-out guests, prepare rooms, assist with lockouts, and be available for general questions.  SCA's will also plan programs in conjunction with group RAs/chaperones as needed and for the summer school population.

Students who have at least one semester of residential living experience and a 2.0 G.P.A. or better may apply by contacting W. Tramaine Rausaw, Director of Residential Living in the Residential Living Office or at wrausaw@sulross.edu.
