Banner FAQs

Do you have a question about the Banner project? E-mail it to Jon Roe at jroe@sulross.edu. The most frequently-asked questions and their answers will be posted here.

Q. To what extent will we maintain the PLUS system during the project. The charter says "bare minimum." How much is that?

A. Modifications will continue to be implemented that are required for state reporting. Enhancements for convenience are not to be implemented during the project duration. Web self-service enhancements that carry forward from Plus into Banner may be considered during the project on a case-by-case basis.

Q. The charter says that SRSU will work within the configuration spectrum to implement Banner without code modifications. Does this mean the university will not be able to develop things it believes will enhance the services, such as a portal?

A. No. While modifications will not be made to Banner that would require ongoing maintenance from future Banner releases, Oracle and portal development may very likely cooincide with Banner project implementation. Also, Banner can be modified. However, it requires Executive Committee approval and a change order with the Collegis contract.

Q. The operational calendar says the Banner project will be implemented within the constraints of the university's normal observance of holidays, vacation, and etc. Aren't there advantages to working on Banner during downtime?

A. The calendar is built to link consultant and university schedules. OIT and departmental staff may be requested and/or required to work holidays and break periods in order to meet project deadlines. Such requests will require prior approval from Executive Committee and be planned with as much advance notice as is practical.
