SRSU Podcasts

Podcasting is a 21st-century development that provides a fairly easy and inexpensive way to create and distribute video and audio "shows." Sul Ross State University is beginning to test podcasts in current news, information and entertainment.

Anyone may subscribe to a Sul Ross podcast if they have the right software, and all SRSU shows are free.

What Do the Buttons Mean?

As podcasts, blogs or photo feeds become available for subscription, they will be indicated on a related SRSU web page with a button. These buttons describe the type of feed available and provide a link to the address of the feed. This address is needed to subscribe to the feed.

RSS Audio Feed - Audio Podcast (MP3 files)

RSS Video Feed - Video Podcast (MP4 files)

RSS Audio and Video - Mixed Audio/Video Podcast

RSS Photo Feed - Photo Feed (JPEG files)

RSS Blog Feed - Blog Feed (text/HTML)

Note: photo and blog feeds generally require different software than podcasts.

How to Subscribe

Subscribing to a podcast requires software that can check the feeds and manage the files. There are free programs available that will do this, including:

  • iTunes, available for Windows 2000 or XP and Mac OS X 10.2.8 and up.
  • Juice, available for Windows 2000 or XP and Mac OS X 10.3 and up. A Linux version is under development.

To subscribe to a podcast in iTunes, open the program and go to Advanced > Subscribe to Podcast in the iTunes menu. Enter the address of the podcast feed, and click OK. For more about using iTunes, see the Help section in the program's menu.

To subscribe in Juice, open the program and click on the Subscriptions tab. Click on the Add New Feed button and enter the address of the podcast feed in the URL line. Click Save. For more about using Juice, see the Help section in the program's menu.
