After posting a 4-36 mark (1-23) in 2008, the Sul Ross Lady Lobo softball team will look to build on every aspect from a team that finished last in the American Southwest Conference Western Division standings.

Returners for 2009 include pitcher/outfielder Valerie Olivarez. Olivarez, a senior, finished 2008 batting .321 after 112 at-bats. She recorded 36 base hits, a homer and 10 RBI’s as a junior and posted seven doubles.

Other top returners include Christa Carrasco, Kassie Fuller, Dee Dee De Lao and Vanadie Carpio. Carrasco, a junior second baseman, batted .286 in 2008 with 18 hits and 8 RBI’s.

Fuller, a junior third baseman, batted .247 and clubbed 21 hits including 3 doubles, a triple and 2 homeruns.

De Lao, a junior catcher, posted a .270 batting average for 2008 with 20 hits including 10 RBI’s.

Carpio, who saw action at shortstop, finished her freshman campaign with a .259 batting average. She tied teammate Olivarez with seven doubles and reeled in 10 RBI’s.
