The 2009 Sul Ross State University men's and women's tennis teams will be looking for marked improvement from last year's contingency. 

Returners for the men's team include James Aldridge (El Paso, So.), John Langerock (Austin, So.), John Taylor (Godley, So.), Joseph Torres (Alpine, Sr.) and Felix Zapien (Alpine, So.)

Returners for the women include Christine Gallardo (El Paso-Jr..), Fernanda Busch (Sanderson-Gr.) and Sandra Torres (Castroville, So.)

The women’s team finished fifth in the American Southwest Conference West Division standings in 2008 with a season record of 5-7, 2-5 in ASC play. The men finished seventh at 1-10 and 1-6.

"We're looking forward to this year," said Coach Kay Whitley. "With our experience returning and some talented newcomers, we should see improvement in both teams throughout the year." 

During Whitley's tenure, Sul Ross has won seven women's conference championships and one men's title.
