The Sul Ross men’s cross country team reeled in a fifth place finish at 2008's American Southwest Conference Cross Country Championships.
U.T.-Tyler took the gold with East Texas Baptist finishing ninth. McMurry University polled second place while Mississippi College and University of the Ozarks claimed third and fourth place respectively.
Schreiner placed sixth while U.T.-Dallas and Concordia finished at seventh and eight respectively.
Departing Larry Lovato placed 15th in the 8K with a time of 27.50.8. Kendall Smith (28.22.5) polled a 23rd place slot. Other Sul Ross runners included James Blessinger, (24th, 28:24.7). Kyle Anderson and Brian Brown rounded out the top 50.
Christina Solis was the only Sul Ross women’s runner. She finished 32nd with a time of 27:30.6 in the 6K.
Mississippi College took the women's crown while U.T.-Tyler and McMurry finished second and third respectively. Louisiana College came in at the eleventh slot.
Smith and Anderson will be top returners for the 2009 campaign for the men's team.
Sul Ross will open the 2009 cross country season at the annual Texas A&M Invitational on Sept. 5 in Laredo.
