Barton H. Warnock Science Building

Exterior of the Warnock BuildingConstructed in 1959 and opened in 1960, the Science Building at Sul Ross State University was renamed the Barton H. Main Staircase in the Warnock BuildingRecent renovation of the Warnock Science Building was completed in 2006. The results have made the building highly conducive to learning and research.

Students are now able to combine stargazing with more down-to-earth lessons in the planetarium-lecture room on the third floor. Additionally, students are able to experience closer-to-nature instruction with the addition of a small outdoor amphitheater on the north-side of the building.

Classroom in the Warnock BuildingOther features of the renovation included first and second floor lecture/conference rooms and faculty offices with adjoining research labs. Laboratories for chemistry, petrology, physics, geology, molecular and microbiology, GIS, botany and zoology were reconfigured during the renovation.

Space was also created to display herpetology/fish/vertebrate, insect and geology collections.

Total square footage of the Warnock Science Building is 46,080 square feet.
