Everett E. Turner Range Animal Science Center

Exterior of the Tuner RAS CenterConstruction on the Everett E. Turner Range Animal Science Center was completed in 2006. The center was named after longtime faculty member Everett E. Turner.

Located approximately one mile east of the Central Campus between Highway 90 and Old U.S. Highway 90, the Everett E. Turner Range Animal Science Center houses the university’s animal science and natural resource management departments.

Classroom in the Turner CenterWork on the center included a new brick façade for the building and extensive landscaping which included drought-tolerant trees, groundcover, grasses and cacti.

While many of the labs and working areas were well-maintained, they dated back to the 1970’s or earlier and an overall upgrade of the center was required to keep up with changes in technology and education.

Turner LoungeOther additions to the center included: new labs and shops, a new swine facility, improved cattle and horse areas, an upgraded meat processing space, a new 50-foot show ring, including a new treadmill to study horse physiology, a new student lounge, vending and study area and improved displays of students’ awards and trophies.

Close to 15 percent of Sul Ross State University’s students are enrolled in the center’s programs. More than 5,000 square feet was added to the building, growing the facility to 26,000 square feet of teaching space.
