Alumni Association President's Message

Dear Fellow Alumni and Friends:

I am honored and excited to serve you as President of the Sul Ross Alumni Association for the 2007-2009 term. The Board is committed to developing another exciting year. We want to expand the excitement that the Sul Ross Baby Boomer group of Alumni produced with the tremendous public relations saga surrounding the success story of Mike Flynt and Sul Ross football.

The SRAA is committed to recognizing and nurturing the rich and proud heritage of Sul Ross State University, the Alumni, the faculty and staff, and the current and future student body through the development of mutually beneficial relationships. It should be the function of the Association to develop ways and means to involve and communicate with the Alumni and to see that the Alumni are recognized as a respected and integral part of the University community.

With that charge, we will focus much of our future effort on Alumni growth, improvement of communication with our stakeholders and expanding our affinity partnerships. Alumni growth not only means growing our active membership but developing Alumni Chapters across Texas. Chapter growth will enhance Alumni friendships, aid in student recruitment, develop scholarship programs and deepen our proud heritage.

The SRAA Board is in the process of updating the Association's By-Laws, altering and increasing our membership dues structure, developing a SRAA Chapter Handbook, and enhancing our membership benefit package. I am proud to be associated with a Board that is committed to the ultimate goal of success of "Sully."

Sul Ross State University wouldn't be what it is today without the support of its talented and diverse Alumni population. I became involved with the Association because I was grateful to SRSU for providing an arena to reach many of my personal growth, career, and professional goals. I feel a deep sense of obligation to repay my debt of gratitude to SRSU for helping me reach these goals. I'm sure many of you feel the same way; if not, please stop and reflect on your personal life.

Together we can influence the future of our alma mater, build a legacy that will maintain the name, strengthen the reputation of the SRSU, and increase the value of our degrees.

PLEASE HELP US, HELP YOU!

Sincerely,

Don Sugarek (BS-'67, MA-'69)
