SRSU Astrotheatre and Planetarium

About the Facility

With the renovation of the Warnock Science Building in 2006 came several unique opportunities for the realization of specialized facility and space. Among these are the newly concieved and re-vamped Astrotheatre. With this resource, informative presentations about current astronomical phenomena can be displayed with engaging digital technology. Currently there are two principle operations facilitated by the Astrotheatre:

1. Planetarium. Students both within SRSU curricular agendas and the community at large may participate in special showings intended to provide real orientation of stars, planetary bodies, and unique spatial/temporal phenomena.

2. Spitz Player Presentations. Students and community members at large may participate in special showings that take advantage of the dome projection system and provide an immersive media experience.

Programs

The digital interface lends itself to a variety of applications, including the showing of high-concept, proprietary motion pictures. We are currently investigating a variety of resources intending to expand the potential options for the Astrotheatre. Our current feature is "Oasis in Space".  Not surprisingly, our mission includes three "styles" of demonstration of interest to astro-philes:

  1. Solar Viewing
  2. Star Party Viewing
  3. Planetarium Viewing
