Nature Writing Class Kokernot Amphitheatre

SRSU Academics in the Outdoors

Many classes offered at Sul Ross State University incorporate learning experiences out of the classroom.

Field Trips

Opportunities range from field trips to national and state parks or local ranches, to majors in environmental studies or natural resource management, to artistic expression through landscape painting or acting in outdoor theatre productions. Students may raft the Rio Grande to measure sandbars in geology or sit under a native live oak tree on campus to practice nature writing.

Hands-On Learning

Sul Ross provides students with opportunities for volunteering with state and national agencies, establishing professional contacts, presenting papers at national conferences, and hands-on research. Enabling student engagement through the outdoors is an important step toward achieving these goals.
