SRSU students

Services

*Actively enrolled students pay a mandatory medical fee for limited services, see tuition and fees. Coverage begins with the opening of residence halls, refer to academic schedule. Continuing students are covered between Fall and Spring semesters.

Campus Nurse*

Student Health Services is staffed by a registered nurse. The office is in University Center Suite 211. Normal hours of operation are 8 am- 5 pm Monday through Friday.

Minor treatments, over-the-counter medication and basic first-aid supplies are available at no cost to students. Wellness talks for student groups and American Red Cross CPR/First-Aid training for university employees can be requested by contacting health services at 837-8102 or health@sulross.edu.

Sul Ross' nurse is a member of the American and the Southwest College Health Associations, Ex-officio member of SRSU's Alcohol and Other Drug Coalition, Accident Prevention and ADA Committees.

Emergency Services

Students are responsible for the cost of all emergency room, hospital, ambulance and non-university health care services received during normal business hours, after-hours, weekends and holidays. The Big Bend Regional Medical Center is located on Highway 118 North. The emergency department is open 24 hours. For life-threatening emergencies dail 911.

Pearce Clinic*

The university has contracted with the Pearce Clinic to provide basic care for acute medical complaints. See covered services. The address is 708 East Brown Ave., less than a quarter mile north of Harrison Street's entrance 4. Student walk-in hours are 8 am to noon Monday through Friday. After walk-in hours, students can contact the clinic directly for an appointment or be referred by the university's nurse.

Please call before 3:30 pm Monday thru Thursday & 3 pm Friday for an appointment.

Pharmacies

There are three retail pharmacies near the main campus:

Sports Physicals

Sports physicals are by appointment only through the Pearce Clinic. Examination is provided at no cost to all varsity athletes, cheerleaders, rodeo team members and intramural referees. Students with abnormal exam results are responsible for the cost of additional diagnostic testing. Please schedule at least one week in advance. Call the Pearce Clinic at (432) 837-3433.

Blank medical history and physical forms are available online through athletics.

Training Room

Therapy for sports injuries, physical evaluation and rehabilitation services is provided to student athletes at the Gallego sports facility on campus. The Head Athletic Trainer may be contacted at (432) 837-8235 or e-mail: cprude@sulross.edu.

Women's Medicaid Program

The Medicaid Womens Health Program provides low-income women with free family planning exams, related health screenings, and birth control through Texas Medicaid. Click here for details.
