Interested in being a Resident Assistant?
It is part of the R.A.'s job to see that residents abide by the rules and regulations of Residential Living and the university. The hall staff join together to plan activities for the residents to help students become acquainted and involved. The RA is a valuable resource for students in meeting the challenges of college life.
What does a RA do?
General Duties
- Be available to all residents on your floor or in your building.
- Respond in a timely manner to all problems.
- Peer advise students on personal, social, and academic matters.
- Assist with general resident concerns.
- Support fellow staff members.
Administrative Duties
- Have a clear understanding of all campus policies and enforce these policies.
- Turn in all reports on a timely basis.
- Have a clear understanding of all emergency procedures.
- Be available during assigned times.
- Be available to open and close residence halls.
- Attend all required workshops, training sessions, and conferences as directed.
- Attend weekly staff meetings and one-on-one meetings with supervisor.
Program Duties
- Plan and publicize events and programs for residents.
- Promote and attend scheduled activities of others.
- Encourage participation by residents in campus activities and organizations.
What are the qualifications?
As a potential student leader, students applying to be a R.A. must meet the following requirements and maintain these qualifications for the duration of holding the position, if hired:
- Be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate or graduate student
- Minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA Have lived on campus for at least two semesters
- Be clear of major University policy infractions (exceptions made only by Director)
- Must be able to pass a criminal background check (the RA position is a security-sensitive)

- March 16 RA Applications Available
- March 23, 24 RA Information Sessions- 8:00 p.m. in Commuity Room
- April 20 Applications due by 5:00pm
- April 21, 22 Individual Interview w/ Panel (Formal)
- April 23, 24 Director Interviews (Formal)
- April 26 Group Process Interviews (Informal)
- April 27 Notifications Delivered, Employment Agreement Due by 5:00 pm
- May 3 Staff Orientation, 6:00 pm in Community Room
- Aug 4 Return to campus for Fall Training by 5:00 pm
