Texas Prefreshmen Engineering Program

TexPREP is a mathematics - based, academic enrichment program for middle school age students. It emphasizes the development of abstract reasoning and problem solving skills. TexPREP helps students prepare for careers in the fields of mathematics, science, technology and engineering.

The program includes course work, team projects, class presentations, examinations, career awareness speakers, field trips and special events. There is an emphasis on problem solving -- the key to mathematics, science and engineering -- throughout the complete program. TexPREP at SRSU includes a Water Science curriculum which takes our students outdoors to learn about the geology, enviroment and water conservation and use in the Big Bend area.

TexPREP is presented in seven-week-long sessions over the course of two summers at Sul Ross State University.

Curriculum

• Year 1: Logic and its Applications to Mathematics, Introduction to Engineering, Problem Solving,
• Year 2: Introduction to Physics, Algebraic Structures, Water Science, Problem Solving
• Year 3: Introduction to Technical Writing, Introduction to Probablility and Statistics

• Who can join: Students in sixth , seventh and eighth grades in 2010
• When: Tuesday, June 8- July 23rd, 2010 (Monday –Friday); 9:50 a.m.-3:50 p.m.
