Earth & Physical Sciences
The Department of Earth and Physical Sciences offers degrees in geology as well as courses in chemistry, astronomy, physics and physical science. Sul Ross State University's location in mountainous West Texas, makes it an ideal locality for geological studies and astronomy. The campus, surrounded by the Trans-Pecos volcanic field, is only 20 minutes from McDonald Observatory and only two hours from Big Bend National Park and Big Bend Ranch State Park.
